Job Description

DevOps Manager, Workday Community

The Workday Community is a collaborative site where Workday customers, implementation partners, and Workday employees interact and share information.  The site lies in the critical path for many groups inside and out of Workday; smooth site operations and performance are essential to supporting Workday's customer satisfaction goals.  

We're looking for a DevOps manager to join our Community development team.  In this role, you'll have responsibility for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Workday Community's public cloud production and development systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid 'hands-on' background in deploying and managing enterprise solutions in AWS with experience in developing tools to automate systems deployment, performance testing, and management tasks.


  • Develop automation code to deploy and maintain systems and applications that run and monitor the Workday Community platform (Drupal 8) in AWS.
  • Work closely with development, QA, and PM team members to understand complex product requirements and translate them into automated solutions for testing and deployment.
  • Help develop a strategy and implement the infrastructure for an automated unit, system, integration, and load testing framework. 
  • Orchestrate production system changes or code releases with minimal or no downtime.
  • Establish and maintain performance engineering tooling and monitoring at both the infrastructure and software process levels.
  • Work closely with engineers to build and support continuous integration and deployment tooling.
  • Drive and solve problems impacting production systems and implement automation to prevent future regressions.
  • Maintain an accurate picture of existing server, storage, networking software and hardware and virtual environments to support scaling against various project requirements. 
  • Ensure test, deployment, and performance monitoring automation is done consistently across environments by mentoring, setting standards, and finding reusable and extensible technical solutions. 
  • Monitor test quality to ensure alignment with test automation standards and consistency.


  • Deep troubleshooting skills that involve analysis of logs, traffic trace, configuration data, automation tools to resolve issues until end-to-end systems are functioning
  • Characterize end-to-end system performance including system, infrastructure and application performance tuning
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: shell scripting, Perl, Python or Ruby highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and organizations
  • Good communication and mentoring skills


  • Comprehensive experience with AWS including a solid understanding of CI and CD, Amazon S3, RDS, EC2, IAM, EFS, ELB, Cloudformation, and Route 53
  • SQL and mySQL skills or equivalent experience with relational DBMS platforms
  • Working knowledge of all layers of the TCP/IP stack and common Internet services/protocols such as SMTP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, HTTP
  • Experience with unit and UI testing frameworks, such as Selenium, Selenide, PHPUnit, Junit, or TestNG
  • Experience with SOAPUI, Jmeter, Loadrunner, JProfiler, Jconsole, and system tools vmstat/top
  • BSc in Computer Science, a technology degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of professional experience in the area(s) of performance monitoring, DevOps, DevTest, or related discipline(s).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker is desirable
