Recruiting for two different shifts. One opening for each shift. Shifts are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
POSITION PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to provide exceptional customer service to South Central College’s students, staff, faculty, and other customers in a professional and timely manner in the Culinary Café.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
1. Operate a cash register/point of sale (POS) system
- Collect payments from customers at the cash register for café purchases
- Reconcile daily cash accrual, credit card receipts, and create end of day deposits
- Navigate point of sale (POS) system, used for ordering food and paying for purchases
2. Café assistance
- Greet customers within the café
- Assist culinary instructors with any set up or tear down of kitchen serving lines
- Assist café operations by wiping down tables and disinfecting serving areas
- Work with limited supervision
3. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner. Complete all annual training requirements.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
- Basic math skills sufficient to be able to do account reconciliations.
- English proficiency, writing and reading skills sufficient to read, explain, and interpret a variety of materials and follow detailed instructions.
- Experience operating a cash register
- Data management skills sufficient to be able to enter and retrieve data into a POS system
- Strong customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers.
- Work constructively and cohesively with supervisors, employees, students and the general public
- Regular walking and standing required
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
- Experience in food and or beverage industry
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, particularly those that apply to retail pricing, cash receipts, sales, and deposits
- Skills to operate modern office machinery, and be proficient with personal computers and software, automated/electronic purchasing processes, report generation techniques and data base management and stock control records
- Organize and prioritize one’s own work
- Knowledge of safety rules and sanitation needs for a kitchen setting
