Salary Range: $84,000 - $106,000

University Data and Institutional Reporting (UDIR) is a unit within Institutional Analysis (IA) having, among other duties, primary responsibility for authoritative institutional data, reporting, and analysis for the University of Minnesota system. UDIR's portfolio includes a wide range of data and reporting activities including the production of official data required for the University's compliance reporting efforts (e.g. IPEDS, NCAA, MN OHE, HLC), related reporting dashboards (e.g. https://idr.umn.edu), decision support for university leadership, ad hoc data requests, and ensuring the integrity of official institutional data.

UDIR is seeking a University Data Projects Business Analyst to join a cross-functional team that will support a variety of institutional data initiatives as the University modernizes its technology architecture, working in partnership with administrative and academic units. This individual will collaborate with other business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to understand and document business requirements, develop relevant technical solutions, troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, and support data reporting and analytics efforts in a wide variety of strategic areas.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Data Projects Support (50%)

  • Serve as translator within the team and across functions (data pillars, information technology, data governance, and institutional data reporting).
  • Lead report authoring efforts and summarization of findings.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the definition and development of strategic project plans and teams assembled to execute the plans.
  • Gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
  • Create and execute strategies that develop and advance relationships with key members of the University community that include business, technical, subject matter experts, sponsors, and stakeholders.

Business Analysis Support (45%)

  • Cataloging data products/code for comprehensive cataloging effort.
  • Support development to construct field-level logic to aid in PL/SQL script development.
  • Responsible for the translation of business needs into technical requirements for implementation across the University.
  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of procedures and workflows to address current and future needs of data projects.
  • Provides subject matter expertise regarding PeopleSoft business processes and related data.
  • Collaborate with product development teams and designers to support the development of functional and technical requirements for reporting and infrastructure efforts.
  • Identification, collection, and management of key team assets (e.g., project artifacts, web and knowledge base).
  • Coordination of user acceptance testing, including creating test conditions, and scripts, performance testing, and recording and reporting identified defects found in content.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least four years of experience, or master's degree plus at least two years of experience.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Experience with project management principles and practices.
  • Experience writing documentation, workflows, and procedures to address system and user needs.
  • Ability to communicate/articulate ideas with all levels of management and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the University of Minnesota's enterprise data environment.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft products such as Campus Solutions, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Financials.
  • Demonstrable experience with Oracle PL/SQL.
  • Experience working with a diverse set of projects.
  • Experience training or coaching others on best practices, standards, and guidelines related to business analysis functions.
  • Progressive experience preparing technical and other related documents by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing business requirements, information, and trends.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle pressure in coordinating multiple tasks in a work/project environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a collaborative team oriented environment.
About the Department

Institutional Analysis is a unit within the Office of Budget & Finance at the University of Minnesota. Reporting offices and functions include the University Data & Institutional Reporting (UDIR), University Survey and Assessment Services (USAS), Enterprise Data Management and Reporting (EDMR), Enterprise Constituent Resource Management (CRM) and the MyU Portal.
