Tax Coordinator

The Tax Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of clerical and accounting duties to assist with Helena's tax reporting including various licenses, fertilizer tonnage reporting, sales tax compliance, and unclaimed property.

What your day may look like



  • Understands various types of indirect and direct tax compliance principles in all states.
  • Utilizes Excel for heavy data manipulation needs and competent with V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, and other Excel formulas.
  • Researches and prepares work papers, prepares the data and forms for sales tax returns, maintains due date calendars and files sales and use tax returns on time.
  • Prepares check requests and electronic tax payments.
  • Assists with the use tax process and accruals to comply with filing requirements.
  • Prepares information related to sales and use tax audits.
  • Prepares reconciliations and book journal entries in Oracle.
  • Analyzes general ledger account information for tax purposes on a monthly basis.
  • Works with locations and consultants to assist in reporting needs, including compliance questions, and reference materials.
  • Researches and understands industry specific exemptions and laws related to the agricultural industry in which Helena operates.
  • Prepares and renews business, fertilizer, and other licenses for Helena and our subsidiaries and maintains a calendar of due dates.
  • Assists with the registration of new locations at the state and local level.
  • Utilizes multiple types of software to run and analyze reports.
  • Assists with other duties as needed including property taxes, fertilizer fee reporting, income and franchise taxes, unclaimed property, business licenses, annual inventory count and special projects.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.



Education and experience needed for this position



  • Associate's degree is required.
  • Two years of related work experience and/or training is required.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.



Other skills that will help you succeed



  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle General Ledger, Discoverer, TM1, and Checkpoint are preferred.
  • Written and verbal communication skills is required.
  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator.
  • Works well in a team environment with an emphasis on customer support, quality and timely work.
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Performs filing and copying duties.
  • Reads, writes and comprehends instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Understands documents such as tax regulations, tax form instructions, legal documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Speaks effectively and can present information to other employees, leaders, auditors and others as needed.



Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position is that of a typical office environment where the noise level is mostly quiet. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
