Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Energy Sciences Area (ESA) Office has an opening for a Senior Administrator to join the team.

We are seeking a proactive and organized Senior Administrator to oversee and drive high-impact policies and procedures, working closely with ESA leadership, research and operations staff, as well as external stakeholders including the Department of Energy and other national laboratories.

What You Will Do:



  • Independently plan, develop, and coordinate all logistical aspects of Area Office managed activities, including meetings, workshops, VIP visits, and conferences.
  • Manage the organization of regular Area Leadership and Management meetings, facilitating agenda coordination and follow-up on action items.
  • Assist with complex administrative support for strategic priorities such as research initiatives and internship/mentoring programs.
  • Provide specialized support services to area-level and lab-level working groups, ensuring smooth coordination and communication.
  • Act as ESA point of contact for the annual performance management process, coordinating deadlines and town hall meetings.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals from various levels across the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate administrative support services such as invoice payments, procurement, and office supplies/equipment maintenance.
  • Serve as the lead timekeeper for the Area Office and manage property inventory and records.
  • Develop and maintain Google websites, documents, and forms for efficient communication and collaboration.
  • Triage and resolve a broad range of administrative issues within the Area Office, recommending solutions and courses of action.
  • Compose and review business correspondence, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
  • Provide complex support to senior leadership, including calendaring and travel arrangements.



What is Required:



  • BA/BS desired and minimum of 2-6 years related and significant professional/exempt experience or combination thereof. Independently providing support to a large or complex organization.
  • Significant professional experience working in an administrative environment for a scientific or technical organization.
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent judgment in managing daily administrative activities.
  • Ability to handle confidential documents and communications.
  • Substantial and comprehensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google applications, and video conferencing systems (e.g., Zoom).
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, assume responsibility and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and identify service needs and independently develop solutions
  • Demonstrated skills in meeting and event coordination, tracking and data management, organization and preparation of meeting materials and reports.
  • Demonstrated initiative and excellent judgment in exercising discretion to interact effectively with a variety of individuals and organizations.
  • Editing skills sufficient to edit a variety of documents for grammar, syntax, style, and clarity. Proofread and correct your own work and submit high quality final documents.
  • All of the above plus Extensive knowledge of techniques, concepts, methods, and compliance issues in areas of expertise.
  • Ability to work under minimal guidance and limited direction.
  • Ability to identify and initiate complex programs and provide skilled services in specialized areas



Desired Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of DOE, Berkeley Lab and UC policies, procedures and their business tools and electronic systems.

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
  • This position is expected to pay $83,568- $104,460, which fits within the full salary range of $83,568- $141,012 for the A40.3 job code. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. This position is expected to work 3-4 days per week onsite. Additional onsite days may be required depending on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
