Duties and Responsibilities:

The Village of McFarland has an immediate opening for a full-time Mechanic in the Public Works department. The Mechanic is responsible for the performance of semi-skilled, skilled, and administrative work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the Public Works Department and various other Village departments.  The work includes preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of a wide variety of motor vehicles, construction equipment, and small engine equipment.  Work also involves performing routine maintenance of building mechanical systems including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.  On occasion, the position is also required to perform the same tasks assigned to a Public Works Crewperson, including snow plowing.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency;
  • Completion of a full-time training program in automotive or diesel mechanics;
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience in maintenance and repair of cars, trucks, construction equipment, and/or small engines; or,
  • Any combination of education and experience which in the sole discretion of the Village would demonstrate the Employee’s ability to meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. 

Candidate must possess or be able to obtain a valid Wisconsin drivers’ license with applicable Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) endorsements.

Wage: 

This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a starting pay range of $28.72 to $36.39 per hour (depending on qualifications).

Hours:

a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with rotating on-call duties.

Candidate must be available for overtime work when required, including periodic night and weekend work, and must be able to respond to emergency call outs within 30 minutes in all weather conditions.
