Senior Category Manager, Global Transportation - Air and Sea

Position Summary:

Hillenbrand is looking for a Senior Category Manager, Global Transportation to join our team remotely. As a Senior Category Manager, you will be responsible for optimizing and overseeing the end-to end global transportation and logistics for global air and sea. Leveraging your experience in transportation management, you will be responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies, driving cost reductions, supply base management, negotiating and executing agreements while ensuring seamless transportation across international borders. This will be a Cross-Functional Role interacting with multiple business units such as Manufacturing, Aftersales, and Finance. You will lead and manage the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of global transportation processes and tools.

Work You'll Do:

  • Function as a leader in managing the total cost of ownership (TCO) within the category coordinating all actors in procurement as well as all functional stakeholders e.g., logistics operations, supply chain, etc.

  • Identify, develop, and lead specification, demand, and process improvement initiatives for the logistics category, including conducting lane optimization analysis to maximize efficiencies and costs

  • Measure and track performance of the spend category under your management

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for Global Air and Ocean Logistics to align with Hillenbrand's business objectives

  • Lead strategic sourcing decisions and supplier selection for logistics and supply chain as well as current business for improved cost, quality, or delivery opportunities

  • Execute advanced strategic sourcing plans for collaborative opportunities with other brands within the broader Hillenbrand group

  • Research industry trends, global markets, benchmark data, and understand underlying cost drivers

  • Analyze category spend to identify and develop savings opportunities, using a variety of procurement levers including competitive bidding, global sourcing, negotiation, technology, supply chain/footprint optimization, target costing, etc.

  • Build strong strategic partnerships with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and service meet or exceed expectations

  • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve best overall total cost of ownership and execute legal agreements such as Comprehensive Supply Agreements, Incoterms and Development Agreements

  • Work across Hillenbrand Operating Companies to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction

  • Lead initiatives to optimize the global transportation network, aligning strategies with overall supply chain goals

  • Ensure compliance with international transportation regulations and adjust to changes in global trade regulations

  • Implement risk mitigation strategies for global transportation operations and address potential supply chain disruptions

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the transportation function, implementing best practices to enhance operational efficiency

Team:

The Senior Category Manager, Global Transportation is part of the Global Supply Management (GSM) team and works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that transportation operations are efficient, effective, and aligned with Hillenbrand's strategic objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience working in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Category Management, Supply Chain, Logistics Operations, or related field

  • Experience with Logistics category, preferably across multiple modes of transportation (flatbed truck, rail, and ocean freight)

  • Experience leading and participating within project teams to achieve defined outcomes

  • Strong knowledge of transportation management systems and other tools

  • Experience working with international transportation regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance

  • Willingness to travel as needed up to 20% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office and video conferencing tools

  • Experience with Should-Cost Modeling, Total Cost of Ownership, and ROI analysis preferred

  • Experience with business operating systems, i.e.: JDE, SAP, preferred

  • Experience working within a project management environment

  • Ability to read, understand, and execute commercial agreements and contracts

  • Manufacturing background a plus

  • CPSM/CPSD/CPM certification(s) preferred
