Job Summary

Provide specialized administrative support services to attorneys in Legal Affairs and Risk Management, including, but not limited to, responding to requests for documents under the Open Records Act and in discovery, conducting legal research, records management, assisting with document preparation, and responding to court orders and subpoenas. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Institute attorneys and legal support staff; Institute research faculty and management; representatives of government agencies, other universities, outside counsel and research sponsors; and external counsel. This position typically will advise and counsel: Institute research faculty and management. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Organize evidence and records in support of litigation.

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare legal materials, legal memos, documents and correspondence under the supervision of an attorney.

Job Duty 3 -
Assist attorneys in conducting legal research.

Job Duty 4 -
Perform export reviews.

Job Duty 5 -
Draft responses to legal complaints and other documents.

Job Duty 6 -
Assist with maintaining filing system and internal tracking tools.

Job Duty 7 -
Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding office related procedures and processes.

Job Duty 8 -
Participate in special projects as needed and develop, prioritize and monitor achievement of project goals.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Paralegal/Technical certificate, Associate's Degree or two years college course work, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Four years of job related experience

Proposed Salary

Hourly $30.45 to $39.75

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires in depth knowledge of legal office administration and preparation of complex legal documents. The job also requires skills in legal research methodology; knowledge of Georgia law and requirements relating to state entities and educational institutions; and knowledge of export control regulations. Communication, organizational, and problem solving skills are also required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to:

* Review and summarize significant terms of legal documents and business records.

* Prepare legal documents under the supervision of an attorney.

* Conduct legal research.

* Draft responses to legal complaints, discovery requests, and other documents.

* Assist with organizing evidence/records in support of litigation and claims.

* Participate in special projects as needed and develop, prioritize, and monitor achievement of project goals.

* Prepare legal memos, documents, and correspondence under the supervision of an attorney, including memoranda of understanding, settlement agreements, and disciplinary letters.

* Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding office related procedures and processes.

* Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Degrees required for this job: Paralegal/Technical certificate, associate degree or two years

college course work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Degrees preferred: Bachelors degree Years of experience

required for this job: Four years job related experience, especially supporting corporate transactions.
