This position will pay for the yearly license requirement for a current Texas State certified Noncommercial Political Applicators License in the following categories; structural pest, termite, and commodities fumigation. The license must be issued by the State of Texas and must be maintained in a current status throughout employment.

Purpose

To provide Pest Control supervision, scheduling, and treatment for all University Housing and Dining (UHD) residence halls. Assign and evaluate staff work and track and prepare assessments for facilities on campus.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for performing supervisory work in directing, establishing, and enforcing policies and regulations in pest control operations on University of Texas property. Responsible for direct supervision of exterminators. Provides technical assistance to university personnel in maintaining compliance with acceptable standards. Supervises exterminators in the performance of their duties. Perform pest control duties as needed daily for unit. Advise immediate supervisor of all progress and keep informed of pest issues.

  • Inspects buildings and properties for evidence of damage and infestation by pests common to the vicinity.Inspect building for bedbugs and implement immediate actions to treat them when identified. Coordinate and communicate with students, Residence Life, and Manager any situation that requires relocation of residents.

  • Communicate with manager on any issues involving staff, work performance, student issues, and the status of work. Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers. Must always carry a communication device and be available after hours by cell phone. Responsible for vehicle logs and scheduled maintenance. Must respond 24/7 to pest-related issues.

  • Determines chemicals to prevent and control pests and to ensure safety to self and others. Operates and maintains power insecticide disposal equipment. Weighs, measures, and mixes toxic pesticides in accordance with standard formulas and safety practices. Ensures equipment is maintained. Perform & practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) when possible.

  • Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training. Other duties as assigned.

  • Make routine decisions to ensure daily work orders and projects are completed, attend meetings, and other related tasks. Inspect and approve pest control work by outside vendors as needed. Communicate schedules of planned treatments inside and outside buildings.

  • Respond to emergencies. Ensure safe work conditions and work practices. Promote safety through regularly scheduled safety training meetings. Follows directives of Environmental Protection Agency and Structural Pest Control Board when mixing and applying pesticides. Maintains records as required by state and federal laws and policies. Conducts safety training on pesticides and equipment.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.

  • At least 5 years of experience in extermination and pest control.

  • Certified Pest control applicator from the Texas Structural Pest Control Board.

  • Knowledgeable of equipment used for pest control.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • More than 5 years of experience in extermination and pest control.

  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience in extermination and pest control.

  • Related work experience from the University of Texas at Austin and/or related experience in higher education.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Professional demeanor.

  • Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and oral instructions.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$57,000 + depending on qualifications
