Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has co-op opportunities for college students to spend much of 2025 getting great work experience, in great locations, supporting the world's greatest Navy.

We are looking to hire Data Science students for a unique co-op experience at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL)! The successful candidate will join a small innovation team with experience in the areas of data science, and computer & electrical engineering, working to advance promising ideas to improve U.S. Navy submarine and aircraft carrier control or power systems.

NNL Technical Co-op positions fully integrate students into various organizations with assignments that provide real-world work experience in their fields. Co-op students may be engaged in a variety of different tasks supporting one or more technical areas including:

* Researching and developing new analysis methods, technologies, and/or concepts

* Designing and testing software, components, or integrated systems

* Developing models and performing data analysis

* Supporting operations and developing process controls and procedures

Program highlights include:

The NNL Co-op program is an approximate 30 week program starting in January 2025.

A co-op position may result in a return internship or full-time employment offer (based on student eligibility) upon successful completion of the program.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Candidates for Data Science co-op positions must be:



  • Pursuing Data Science, Computer Science, or related BS, MS and/or PhD degrees from an accredited college or university
  • Must have completed at least first full year of college by January 2025
  • Enrolled/continuing in a degree program throughout this co-op assignment



Students must attach most recent unofficial college transcripts and resume to the employment application.

Preferred Skills

* Cumulative minimum GPA 3.0/4.0

* Prior related internship, co-op or work experience (paid or volunteer)

* Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD) or Naval Nuclear Program experience

Compensation and Benefits

NNL offers an outstanding Compensation and Benefits package for interns and co-ops which includes:

Pay Range

$23-$41 per hour

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
