INTERNSHIP/PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The Public Benefits Management Intern will support the
Public Benefits Team to ensure that clients are accessing appropriate public benefits available to them in
a timely manner. Public benefits that are managed by the Public Benefits team include Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Health
First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program). This position allows interns to work closely with refugee
clients as they navigate the Public Benefits system in Colorado.

COMMITMENT: 10-15 hours per week (3 month minimum; 6+ months preferred)

LOCATION: Hybrid. At IRC Office and remotely from home

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist clients with completing monthly benefits redeterminations which includes; utilizing
language line and in-house interpreters to complete calls with clients, collecting income and
expenses information, and any household composition changes.
* Complete EBT card orientations with clients; setting up EBT cards for clients before handing them
off to casework or delivering them in person, explaining to clients how to access EBT funds, and
general EBT card troubleshooting and support
* General administrative support for the Public Benefits Team

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The intern will learn about the various aspects of accessing and maintaining eligibility for Public Benefits
(TANF, SNAP, Medicaid) for our refugee, parolee, and asylee clients. This position will also provide the
intern with valuable experience working in the field, working directly with clients and interpreters, as well
as working in an office environment.SUPERVISION: Reports to the Public Benefits Specialist

Minimum Qualifications:REQUIRED SKILLS:
* Ability and openness to communicate with speakers with limited English proficiency.

* Openness to working with people from varied backgrounds.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
* Proficiency in another language desirable but not required.
