Job Summary

The Research Analyst will work as part of Dr. Brian Anderson's research team, which includes collaborators from UCSF Departments of Emergency Medicine and Neurology, as well as from beyond UCSF.. We seek to analyze small to large datasets to measure the use of, and harms associated with, psilocybin use and other psychedelics. We use health services research analytic techniques to measure changes in use and harms over time, identify personal characteristics associated with these outcomes, and measure changes associated with local- and state-level drug policy.

The Research Analyst will conduct statistical studies in support of this research agenda using several datasets already acquired by the research team. They will collaborate with the PI and research team on the design and development of research studies, conduct statistical analyses, and prepares reports and / or analyses, including the preparation of tables and figures for publication. They will analyze key variables from large datasets using multivariable methods. Common methods used in this research include descriptive variables, logistic regression, difference-in-differences, fixed effects, and population weighting.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in related field and minimum one year of experience or equivalent combination of training/experience.
  • Working knowledge of research function.
  • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.
  • Working skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Competent in statistical analyses of at least small-to-moderate-sized data sets.
  • Prior experience with observational and cross-sectional data of mental health and substance use outcomes data.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychedelic drugs and their effects on health
  • Experience with R preferred; STATA, SPSS and SAS acceptable.
  • Experience with quantitative research specifically on substance use / substance use disorders.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Doctorate degree or Masters degree in related area or equivalent experience and training.

License/Certification
