About the Department and/or College

The faculty in the in the at invites applications from innovative and collaborative colleagues to join our faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in Counselor Education and Supervision. This full-time, tenure-track position with a nine-month academic-year appointment will start on September 1, 2024.

The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling is renowned for its robust graduate programs, which are gaining acclaim both nationally and internationally. The Counselor Education and Supervision program is meticulously designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and advanced skills essential for delivering and evaluating evidence-based counseling services in various clinical and educational settings.

Our PhD program stands as a beacon of excellence, focusing on cultivating the next generation of leaders in counselor education and supervision. It is meticulously structured to impart cutting-edge knowledge and sophisticated research skills in counselor education. Additionally, it emphasizes the provision of exceptional counselor supervision across a diverse range of environments and settings, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared to excel in their future endeavors and make meaningful contributions to the field. Our graduates are spread across the country in academia, K-12 settings, clinical practices, and non-profit outreach and service centers.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Other essential functions for this position include the following:

  • Teach graduate courses in person and online
  • Establish and maintain a rigorous research agenda.
  • Work with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams to seek extramural funding to support research and practice.
  • Advise and mentor masters and doctoral students.
  • Supervise graduate student research (including serving on thesis and dissertation committees).
  • Actively participate in service for the program, department, college, and university committees.
  • Help the department build a strong program to be commensurate with the University's mission as a Hispanic-serving institution.
  • Collaborate and cooperate with colleagues to fulfill the needs of the department's and college's strategic goals.
  • Develop and foster partnerships with school districts, community partners, other colleges, and universities for engaged scholarship.
  • Promote a collaborative, socially just environment within the department, college, university, and community.

Required Qualifications


  • A doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited doctoral program by August 2024.
  • Credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or license-eligible in the state of Texas within one year of appointment.
  • Knowledge of CACREP standards for PhD and MEd programs.
  • Evidence of potential for conducting meaningful research in the field of Counselor Education.
  • Demonstrated experience with outreach or service for the counseling profession at local, state, regional, or national levels.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education (e.g., co-teaching, teaching assistant).

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Eligible for state credential to provide clinical supervision.
  • Credentials and training to provide specific types of counseling interventions (e.g., play therapy, EMDR, hypnosis).
  • Evidence of published/accepted peer-reviewed article(s) in counseling journals.
  • Evidence of presented/accepted peer-reviewed presentation(s) at the state, regional, or national level.
  • Demonstrated experience writing proposals for external funding.
  • Demonstrated experience as an instructor of record for college or university-level coursework.
