Environmental Health and Safety Technician

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field. (OR) an Associate's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related field (AND) at least two years of recent experience in an Environmental Health and Safety related function, proficiency in Microsoft applications, ability to work well in a team environment and independently, excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks to completion and general experience with OSHA, EPA, DEC and NFPA regulations pertaining to Environmental Health and Safety required.
Nature and Scope of Duties:
* The Environmental Health and Safety Technician reports to the Director of Environmental Health & Safety and performs the following duties:
* Assists in the implementation and maintenance of campus environmental, health, safety and fire safety policies and programs governing a safe campus environment and meeting regulatory compliance;
* Conducts workplace inspections, manages records of such inspections according to department procedures.
* Maintains Environmental Health and Safety files and records. Modifies and implements compliance tracking programs and recordkeeping systems.
* Assists in administrative functions including: procurement of safety equipment and supplies, maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment, issuance of safety glass and safety shoe vouchers, scheduling of Environmental Health and Safety services with outside vendors;
* Assists in responding to emergencies where health, safety and environmental compliance may be affected;
* Conducts industrial hygiene monitoring for chemical and physical hazards.
* Participates in Safety Committee meetings and other campus wide functions;
* Maintains effective communication and working relationships with Physical Plant staff, Public Safety staff, Deans and Department Chairpersons, Environmental Health and Safety staff, and all campus employee and outside regulatory agencies.
* Completes special projects as assigned;
* Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Environmental Health & Safety.
This is a full-time 12-month Non-Teaching Professional position with a salary of $40,000.00
