Job Summary

Housed in the UCSF Hematology-Oncology Division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital the Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will perform independently or with general direction to execute, manage, and coordinate a diverse portfolio of cancer research activities, which may include multicenter clinical trials (both NIH and industry-sponsored), local investigator-initiated clinical trials, and/or programmatic clinical research activities, such as a clinical database and biorepository. Under PI and Research Manager guidance, this position will coordinate the data collection and operations of several concurrent studies under the guidelines of research protocols and ZSFG, UCSF and regulating agency policies. Working closely with the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the incumbent will help coordinate the opening, management, and data reporting for studies that are open at both sites.

Incumbent's duties will include, but will not be limited to, supporting the management and coordinating the tasks of multiple clinical research studies; acting as intermediary between services and departments while overseeing data and specimen management; managing and reporting study results; creating, cleaning, updating, and managing databases and comprehensive datasets and reports; assisting Research Manager and/or PI with oversight of other research staff, including volunteers; managing Investigator's protocols in the UCSF IRB online system, including entry of new studies, renewals and modifications of protocol; timely reporting of SAEs, protocol violations, and incidents; entering and updating study and study participant data in the OnCore clinical trials management system; participating in the review and writing of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within University compliance; helping to assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies; overseeing study data integrity; implementing and maintaining periodic quality control procedures; interfacing with departments to obtain ZSFG and UCSF approval prior to study initiation; maintaining all regulatory documents; reporting study progress to investigators; participating in internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols; and performing other duties as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

• HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training
• Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population
• Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
• Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation
• Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in Spanish or Cantonese
• BA/BS degree in life sciences or related scientific discipline
• Phlebotomy certification
• Experience in clinical trials coordination or cancer treatment
• Experience with electronic medical records
• Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and a clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.); knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances, database building/analysis, and data management within some of the following: Access, Stata, SASS/ SPSS, and Teleform programming platforms
• Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:
  • Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • The Protection of Human Research Subjects
  • CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
  • Effective Cash Handling Procedures
  • Environmental Health and Safety Training
  • Fire Safety Training
• Knowledge of scientific methodology and an understanding of oncology and HIV treatments necessary to comprehend scientific protocols
