Job Summary

Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Neurosurgery and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique ambulatory patient services this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to the Neuro-Spine practice. This APP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their "scope of practice". In general, the "scope of practice" includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • One (1) year of practical experience in surgical outpatient setting in Ortho or Neuro Spine / Pain Management
  • Demonstrated competence in the following areas: Clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership and problem solving

Preferred Qualifications


  • Three to five (3-5) years practical experience in surgical outpatient setting preferably Ortho or Neuro Spine / Pain Management

License/Certification


  • California Driver's License (CDL) if required for position
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
    • Accepted Certifications for this position: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) Practitioner Link to UCSF NP Certification Table for reference:
  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer)
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as a minimum requirement
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1


UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
