Overview The Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring cardiac rhythms of patients required to be monitored at specified time. Responsibilities Essential Generic Job Functions: 1. Observes patient telemetry monitoring system and reports any abnormal responses promptly. 2. Admit and discharge patients from patient telemetry monitoring system. 3. Runs rhythm strips from patient telemetry monitoring system as per protocol. 4. Monitors accurate functioning of patient telemetry monitoring system (i.e., battery life, rhythm clarity related to patient setup, transmitter safety). 5. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day. 6. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). Qualifications Knowledge, Education and Skills Required: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. 2 years experience in health related field. 3. 1 year experience in field or associated field of cardiology. 4. Successful completion of monitor technician course at any hospital facility. 5. Successful passing score on HUMC monitor technician arrhythmia exam. 6. Exposure and experience in computers.
