Job Description:
The Industrial Hygienist (IH) is responsible for
- Identify, evaluate, and control potential health, safety, and environmental hazards associated with new and existing facilities
- Processes to maintain a safe and healthy work environment by providing expert advice and industrial hygiene monitoring services (chemical, physical, and biological agents such as but not limited to: arsenic, cadmium, OSHA 13 select carcinogens, tungsten, III/V chemicals, gallium, magnetic fields, radioactive isotopes, formaldehyde, methylene chloride, nanomaterials, carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, etc.).
- Identifying and preventing exposures that may cause workplace injuries or illnesses, applying scientific knowledge to anticipate hazardous conditions that could cause an adverse health effect on a worker or the environment, recognizing existing hazards and predicting the likelihood of their effects, combining professional judgment and measurements to evaluate hazards and determine methods for preventing or controlling them.
- Evaluate and recommend controls needed for working within all levels of biosafety laboratories, installing and using Photovoltaic equipment. Review and comment on third party Semi S2 evaluations, HAZOP or risk assessments and perform regulatory audits with analysis and follow-up of results.
This position is responsible for:
- Complete ergonomic assessments and provided recommendations as needed/requested
- Attend weekly multi-departmental meetings on various projects and tool specific issues up to and including the reintroduction of arsenic and other toxic metalloids into the line, shutdown meetings, Change Review Board, weekly IBM ops and Tenant meetings as required
- Manage the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) on site, conduct monthly meetings which facilitate review of all bio protocols on Albany and Utica campuses
- Complete annual ventilation assessment for Utica campus exhaust, manage assessments for Albany campus
- Complete site noise survey and audiometric testing on applicable employees in the Hearing Conservation Program
- Conduct respirator use review and review of air monitoring data for employees in Respiratory Protection Program
- Maintain IH Monitoring database to easily track historical and current monitoring events
- Manage and provide classroom biosafety, lab safety, Toxic Metalloid Awareness, Arsenic Awareness and other requested/needed trainings
- Complete annual ventilation assessment for Utica campus exhaust, manage assessments for Albany campus
- Edit, amend, and submit for publishing EHS documents and training as needed
- Performing air and wipe sampling
- Assisting with various EHS initiatives
- Inspecting areas/lab for regulatory compliance
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements for INDUSTRIAL HYGENIST
- Bachelor's degree in a related field of science or engineering
- Experience in the supervision of an environmental health and safety or industrial hygiene or occupational health program.
- CIH, CSP or CHMM certification.
- 5 to 10 years of professional level environmental and safety experience, preferably in a high-tech industry.
- Proven superior organization and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills and ease in giving presentations to diverse populations.
- Ability to negotiate effective solutions to highly sensitive and challenging problems.
- Proficiency in software such as Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Training experience.
