Duties and Responsibilities
The Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing ( MNSON) invites exceptional and promising nurse researchers to apply for tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. The MNSON enrolls over 1400 students across three sites and includes 71 full-time faculty. Programs include a BSN degree with 4 study options, a MSN degree in nursing and healthcare administration, a DNP degree with tracks for preparation in nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist roles, and a PhD in Nursing degree.
We are dedicated to advancing nursing science to promote health equity through research focused on optimizing multilevel health outcomes of individuals, families, and communities, improving quality of healthcare and systems, and better understanding the human experience and mechanisms underlying health.
We support the NIH National Institute of Nursing Research ( NINR) Strategic Plan and encourage applicants with programs of research based on these guiding principles:

-Tackles today's pressing health challenges and stimulates discoveries to prepare for, prevent, or address tomorrow's challenges;
-Discovers solutions across clinical, community, and policy settings to optimize health for individuals, families, communities, and populations;
-Advances equity by removing structural barriers from research, cultivating diversity in perspectives and ideas, and fostering inclusion and accessibility in designing, conducting, and participating in research; and
-Is innovative, develops or applies the most rigorous methods, and has the potential for the greatest impact on health.
Within the context of the Loyola University Chicago and MNSON missions, visions, values, and strategic initiatives, the faculty member will:
-Develop and maintain a program of research that includes research dissemination in peer-reviewed journals and extramural research funding
-Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
-Participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams
-Contribute to school, university, community, and professional committees and other activities through academic service
-Contribute to school and university goals for inclusive excellence and antiracism
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with programs of research framed within one of these five research lenses included in the NINR Strategic Plan Framework:
- Health Equity: Reduce and ultimately eliminate the systemic and structural inequities that place some at an unfair, unjust, and avoidable disadvantage in attaining their full health potential
- Social Determinants of Health: Identify effective approaches to improve health and quality of life by addressing the conditions in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, and age
- Population and Community Health: Address critical health challenges at a macro level that persistently affect groups of people with shared characteristics
- Prevention and Health Promotion: Prevent disease and promote health through the continuum of prevention-from primordial to tertiary
- Systems and Models of Care: Address clinical, organizational, and policy challenges through new systems and models of care
A record of teaching, publications and experience with extramurally funded research grants is expected commensurate with stage of career.
Appointments at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor ranks are possible. For appointments at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, a substantial nationally recognized record of research, publication, teaching, and service meeting criteria for a tenured faculty position at the Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing will be required.

- Doctoral degree in nursing or a related field; postdoctoral experience is preferred
- Eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Illinois
