Summary

The Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center (MMC) and Maine Medical Partners seeks a board certified Psychiatrist to lead the division of intensive psychiatry services at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. Successful candidates will be gifted clinician-educators committed to identifying and treating psychiatric and neuropsychiatric illness and substance use disorders in an inpatient and emergency medical setting, and excited to work with a team of like-minded colleagues.

The division includes three critical services. The 21-bed Geriatric / Neuropsychiatry Inpatient Program is one of a few of its kind in the United States. It features an interdisciplinary team comprised of Psychiatrists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Nurses and learners. A large consultation - liaison group of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Social Workers serves adult medical and surgical inpatients at Maine Medical Center. The rapidly growing Emergency Psychiatry service is led by Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Social Workers and served 4300 patient visits in FY22. Our programs are highly valued by colleagues, learners and region-wide stakeholders. In addition to clinical care, the three hospital psychiatry divisions provide a major teaching resource. We teach and mentor adult psychiatry residents, child psychiatry fellows, geriatric medicine fellows, nurse practitioner students, Tufts University School of Medicine and other medical students, and trainees in other fields. We have a culture of continuous quality improvement and our performance in the areas of safety, quality, and patient experience are consistently excellent.

The Emergency Department at Maine Medical Center comprises 63 beds, including an embedded secure Acute Psychiatry Unit. Physicians are expected to apply for faculty appointment to the Tufts University School of Medicine.
