Job Description

Manages, plans, organizes, and evaluates the staff and activities for Patient Accounts. Oversees timeliness of insurance collections, billing accuracy, cash posting and reconciliation. Manages multiple Supervisors and support staff to ensure efficient, compliant and professional operations. Evaluates and implements policies and procedures to optimize performance.

Job Responsibility



  • Provides leadership to Patient Account Services team members and supervisors by communicating and guiding toward achieving department objectives.
  • Develops, communicates, and builds consensus for goals in alignment with the health system.
  • Manages financial aspects of receivables; collaborates with departments within the organization to ensure effective management of patient cases and accurate billing practices; performs periodic post-installation reviews of the health system initiatives.
  • Proactively reviews payer aging reports and establishes achievable goals for AR reduction and/or cash acceleration; analyzes payer trends, communicates trending (incorrect and delays in reimbursement) to senior organization management and senior insurance carrier contacts; ensures proper management of insurance collections, accurate billing, timely cash posting and reconciliation.
  • Assesses front-end inpatient registration and insurance screens; incorporates financial billing requirements; integrates the health system needs and requirements based upon the decentralization of services in conjunction with appropriate departments; evaluates and implements policies and procedures to optimize performance.
  • Monitors Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient, registrations for Quality Assurance; ensures compliance and integrity of data with billing and regulatory requirements; assists in the preparation and monitoring of department budget.
  • Manages department operations; manages, hires, trains, and disciplines staff; evaluates performance and ensures performance appraisals are completed on a timely basis.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations to improve efficiency of current the health systems/processes for applicable registration and financial services; processes payroll, maintains staff records and work schedules, and ensures adequate coverage at all times.
  • Maintains daily workflow in order to expedite processing while ensuring quality care and customer service; keeps informed of and disseminates pertinent hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and other regulatory agency standards, insurance requirements and regulations.
  • Monitors staff workload, ensures work is distributed equitably, and adjusted accordingly; ensures accuracy and timeliness of supervisor quality controls.
  • Mentors and develops staff skills for further professional advancement; serves as interim leadership in the absence of the leadership.

Job Qualification



  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience and 2-5 years of leadership / management experience, required.
