Job Overview

The Biostatistician - on a part time basis - provides biostatistician and data management services to MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS), a longitudinal cohort study ongoing for 30+ years with collaborators across the country and funded by the NIH. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborates with clinic and other personnel, including analyst/programmers from other study sites, in monitoring and assessing data quality.
  • Provides regular enrollment updates, and study progress updates.
  • Manages daily, monthly, mid-visit and central edits.
  • Collaborates independently with biomedical researchers in designing and implementing studies, analyzing data, and publishing results from research projects.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for writing statistical design, methods, and analysis for research proposals.
  • Coordinates and conducts staff training.
  • Coordinates quality control efforts, and serves on writing teams.
  • Designs statistical analyses and report generation procedures for specific research studies, and writes statistical methods and results sections of reports and publications.
  • Prepares scientific manuscripts and abstracts including primary authorship of research papers.
  • Supervises the work of subordinate biostatisticians and other staff members.


Work Interactions

The Biostatistician interacts with investigators, research staff, and study leadership locally, and nationally. They work in with all investigators and research staff, including the medical team and research assistants/specialists, Assistant Project Directors, Project Director, and the Principal Investigators; and interact with internal and external investigators to develop research protocols, analytical plans.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biostatistics or statistics
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in data analysis using statistical packages
  • 8 to10 years of data management in biomedical studies
  • Ability to train, guide, and manage research staff in conducting data collection, entry, and edits
  • Experience in research protocols and quality assurance
  • Ability to work independently and in the team
  • Fluency in speaking Spanish preferred
