ENSCO will operate and maintain the TTC in support of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to develop a vibrant, engaging, and modern TTC that fosters innovation, encourages positive change, and creates opportunity. ENSCO will also expand the use of the facility to support other government and commercial entities to achieve the broader mission of transportation safety, security, and innovation.

ENSCO's contract term at TTC includes a five-year base period and three, five-year option periods for a total of 20 years from award date. Transition of the DOT operations, maintenance and research programs to ENSCO is anticipated to be completed by October 2022, therefore ENSCO is opening this position contingent on contract award and commencement starting in October 2022.

Job Description

ENSCO is seeking a Senior Railway Research Engineer with experience within the railroad industry to provide research, engineering, testing, and training services to the railway industry in the areas of track; rollingstock; signals and communications; and human factors.

Efforts may focus on a wide variety of railway initiatives including:
* Rollingstock testing such as ride quality, braking performance and noise/vibration levels
* Vehicle/Track Interaction modeling, simulation, and testing
* Vehicle and track component evaluations
* Bridge evaluations
* Signal and communications testing
* Grade crossing safety
* Ergonomics and human factors

Participation in these efforts may include:
* Writing research plans, test reports and briefings
* Conducting the research and testing
* Analysis of data
* Authoring research reports, papers, and briefings
* Serving as a point of contact with external project and research stakeholders
* Managing research teams including work assignments, budget management and administrative activities
* Publishing research results and presenting research at conferences and other industry forums
* Support the establishment of research agendas for federal, commercial, and international clients including participation in industry organizations

Qualifications Required (Skills)

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
* Minimum of 10 years' of relevant professional experience
* Experience in railroad industry
* Testing/analysis experience in an applicable engineering field
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team
* Ability to build professional and courteous relationships with your colleagues and supervisors
* Must be able to safely climb a 15-foot-high ladder to gain access to railroad cars
* Ability to react well under pressure in high-stressed situations; accept responsibility for own actions.
* Ability to observe all safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
* Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties. Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest, and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.

Qualifications Desired

* Ph.D. degree or higher in an engineering or scientific field
* Active contributor in relevant professional organizations within the rail industry (e.g., participation in or leading of committee meetings/working groups, presentation of research, review/publication of papers for sponsored conferences/journals)
