Senior Database Reliability Engineer, Oracle

US Remote

Position Responsibilities

As a senior member of the Database Reliability Engineering team, the Senior Oracle Database Reliability Engineer will work on scaling our systems, building automation, and drive operational database improvements for Deltek's US Restricted (FedRAMP) Cloud Products. We are seeking a driven individual with a passion for database performance management to help ensure an outstanding customer experience.

  • Design and support Oracle RMAN or any other storage replication technologies
  • Provide capacity planning, deploy, and support failover technologies like Oracle Active Data Guard and Golden Gate
  • Build automation around database problems like backups, restores, failover, schema changes and disaster recovery testing
  • Provide feedback on database performance and availability to architectural designs and code reviews
  • Instrument observability and analytics tooling (Oracle Enterprise Manager, AppDynamics or similar APM) to help detect performance bottlenecks and prevent issues before they happen
  • Work closely with Cloud SRE, Delivery, and Architecture to build highly resilient, performant and globally replicated databases
  • Analysis and troubleshooting of complex application and database issues
  • Participating in maintenance activities and on-call rotations as required
  • Execute disaster recovery plans and reporting on metrics related to those activities

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science field or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience operating and administering relational databases Oracle database (12c and 19c) in large production environments at scale on Amazon Web Services
  • 5+ years of experience applying an automation first approach to problem solving leveraging configuration management tools and scripting (e.g., Unix Shell, Python)
  • Comfortable with Oracle database management tools involving (RMAN, Data Pump, ASM, Grid Infrastructure)
  • Proven experience in deploying, maintaining Oracle high availability solutions such as Oracle Active Data Guard, Golden Gate, or Real Application Cluster (RAC)
  • Strong database performance tuning skills with the ability to think through challenging issues and provide proper recommendations to management
  • Strong understanding of database optimization, database schema, and systems architecture
  • 5+ years of experience with Linux and related technologies especially with troubleshooting production systems
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) preferred
  • Experience with application performance monitoring tools - AppDynamics preferred
  • Must be detail oriented, task driven, and have excellent communication skills
  • Passionate and curious about ways to leverage technology while continually learning
  • US Citizenship required
Nice to have:
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment tools (e.g., GitHub, Jenkins) is a plus
  • Experience with configuration management and orchestration (e.g., Terraform, Cloud Formation, Ansible) is a plus
  • Experience with FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, CIS, and other security and compliance frameworks is a plus
  • Certifications in any of the above technologies is a plus
