About the Job
Application Deadline Date: This position will remain open until filled; however, applicants are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible as the review process will begin right away.
The Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) at the University of Minnesota Medical School is inviting applications for three (3) postdoctoral fellowships to join a vibrant team of faculty and postdoctoral fellows for a two-year program beginning Fall 2023. This fellowship will combine clinical and scholarly endeavors and includes the Michael Metz Fellowship in Couples Sexual Health, the Doug Braun-Harvey Fellowship in Compulsive Sexual Behavior, and the Randi and Fred Ettner Fellowship in Transgender Health.
ISGH promotes the sexual health of Minnesota, the nation, and the world through preeminence in research, education, clinical service, and advocacy. These positions will begin on September 5, 2023, though may be flexible for the successful applicant(s). Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. or Psy.D. prior to starting in this fellowship program. The fellowship includes a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and a professional travel stipend.
The Fellow will provide individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy for a wide range of sexual dysfunctions and disorders with a primary focus in a specified area, depending on the fellowship. Designated fellowships are designed to support a balanced mix of clinical and research training in the specified area, with broader experience in overall sexual health care.
Fellows will have 40% time devoted to completing research projects under faculty supervision, with the goal of presenting results at a scientific conference and preparing articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop the capacity to write grant applications to support their scholarly work. The remaining time is allocated to direct patient care.
The Institute for Sexual and Gender Health/Center for Sexual Health clinic serves a diverse group of patients (an average of 1,300 patient visits a month), including children, adolescents, minorities, disabled individuals, and clients with chronic medical or mental health problems. The training will help the fellow develop their skills in addressing sexual and gender issues in any clinical setting. In addition to sex and gender-related therapy, treatment addresses a wide variety of psychiatric disorders. This kind of diversity makes for an exciting and stimulating fellowship! Fellows complete a research project that is consistent with the research goals of the faculty but also tailored to their interests.
Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on resume):
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology or Family/Marital Therapy. Interest in and experience with sexual or gender-related therapy.
