OVERVIEW

As an Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for managing compliance for the accounting department, including taxes, State and Federal registrations, and assisting with other IRS-related matters. This will also include processing payroll, accurately recording transactions, and analyzing account balances of Consumer Reports. You will add value by finding efficiencies and leading the research for the sales tax and payroll processes. You will collaborate with cross-functioning teams such as People & Culture, Legal, and the Auto Test Center.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position and is eligible for remote work up to 90%. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of one of our main Yonkers, NY office location.



HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for managing compliance for the accounting department, including taxes, State and Federal registrations, and assisting with other IRS-related matters. This will also include processing payroll, accurately recording transactions, and analyzing account balances of Consumer Reports. You will add value by finding efficiencies and leading the research for the sales tax and payroll processes. You will collaborate with cross-functioning teams such as People & Culture, Legal, and the Auto Test Center.

Responsibilities:

    Manage all aspects of payroll function, including answering employee inquiries, research and review of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) as it applies to employee compensation, and modification of payroll policies as needed to comply with the IRC.
  • Manage all aspects of CR's Sales Tax Process and other administrative filings, including analyzing and responding to notices.
  • Lead life cycle costing for the CR's Auto Test Center vehicles.
  • Support the annual audit process by collaborating with auditors and internal staff to provide timely, accurate responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Facilitate departmental accounting goals and manage other special projects in the organization as needed, including workflow process improvements.
  • Draft memos that address the accounting of non-routine transactions and the adoption of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Maintain, develop, and document new and existing accounting policies and procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries from our finance partners and organization-wide managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Collaborate with other Finance Division managers to support overall department goals and objectives.


ABOUT YOU

You'll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have a BA/BS in Accounting.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, particularly with nonprofits and publishing.
  • You have strong knowledge of US GAAP, and nonprofit financial accounting principles.
  • You have experience with both union and non-union payroll.
  • You have performed accounting and tax research (referencing authoritative literature), journal entry processing, project management, and cross-functional work.
  • You have proven proficiency in Google G Suite Tools (Forms, Sheet, Doc).

You'll be one of our top picks if:

  • You have previous experience with Oracle Financials, IBM Cognos Analytics (UKG Business Intelligence), and IBM Cognos TM1.
  • You have public auditing firm experience.
  • You are a CPA.

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $112k to $125k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
