Milliken Healthcare Division - Continuous Improvement Engineer

Job Description

The individual in this position will participate in a dynamic learning experience while contributing to the division's growth and productivity goals. Under the direction of the Process Improvement Manager this position works independently or in conjunction with other engineers, plant managers, shift supervisors, quality, production, and maintenance personnel in analyzing developing, and maintaining effective processes in direct support of manufacturing achieving safety, quality, and delivery, and cost (SQDC) goals.

Key Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary technical owner of assigned processes.
  • Work with a team of engineers to ensure that Healthcare operations is performing to a high level of standards with regards to safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency
  • Proactively execute on assigned continuous improvement projects in operating processes and procedures that drive safety, efficiency/productivity, and/or cost effectiveness objectives as identified by Operations Management.
  • Update and maintain all machine and product specs with respect to the area of responsibility while building a culture of accountability that includes monitoring KPI performance thresholds and regular auditing along with development focused performance coaching
  • Update and maintain, in conjunction with additional process owners, all standard work instructions with respect to the current suite of products and all lean resources and materials.
  • Develop and execute defect recognition training and documentation, maintaining samples, and product holds where appropriate
  • Work with Research & Development team to determine how to prep and run new products as they are prepared for commercialization
  • Manage Customer complaints, troubleshooting root causes of quality issues and defects, communicating broadly with QA, regulatory, and production management to ensure that quality focused improvements are documented and implemented correctly.
  • Ensure that associates are communicating mechanical and safety related items with appropriate engineering and/or maintenances groups thru work orders. Appropriate management should be notified immediately with any safety concerns, and all safety and/or mechanical concerns should be resolved in a timely manner.
  • Leads and serves as a resource for plant Continuous Improvement Efforts
  • Be a role model in the Plant Safety Processes
  • Oversee and perform calibration assessments in conjunction with Maintenance as required
  • Serve as a technical representative for process and equipment improvement, modification, and/or installation projects.

Job Expectations

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Process Improvement, or other related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in an Engineering, or Process related role within a hands on manufacturing environment
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Works effectively and cooperatively with others in a proactive, constructive, and positive way
  • Demonstrates flexibility within a high-performance work environment
  • Elevates performance of self and others with a strong inclination towards empowerment, teaching/learning and constant development
  • Completes work independently and with guidance for various supervisors and managers
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with associates at all levels in verbal, written, and presentation/spreadsheet style formats
