Systems Engineer, Structures and Mechanisms - Lunar Permanence - Advanced Development Program

We want you to be accountable for leading and/or contributing to subsystem designs for the Structures and Mechanisms used in our lunar lander designs. You will write your respective subsystem's functional and performance requirements, lead/support integrated analysis, and plan the verification and validation campaign to ensure safe and reliable operations in space. You will also represent your system in cross-functional trades and impact studies for architectures and vehicles that you support. You should expect that this foundational part of our vision will require excellent communication and teamwork.

This position reports to the Group Manager of the Requirements Group inside the Advanced Development Programs (ADP) business unit. ADP is responsible for all Blue Origin's orbital and planetary flight systems, services, products, and a wide range of concepts, proposals, and development projects.

Responsibilities
  • Ownership of one of the following Structures and Mechanisms subsystems in various in space applications
  • Own studies, concept development, interface development, procurement, requirements, integration, and operations support
  • Coordinate with leads from systems and programs to ensure seamless integration with your hardware
  • Build the development program (cost, schedule, technical) via subcontractors(s) and/or internal staff
  • Ensure the technical performance of the subsystem satisfies requirements in efficient and elegant solutions
  • Support the development and execution of component and subsystem tests
  • Write and own the plan for verification test and analysis
  • Ensure timely updates and communication of system-level architecture diagrams, schematics
  • Mentor and educate junior Blue Origin employees on systems engineering processes and methods.
Qualifications
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
  • Understanding of the principles and methods of mechanism design in space or similar harsh environmental applications
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, and verification and validation.
  • Participate, as needed, in technical and programmatic customer interactions that require your expertise
  • Work inter-dependently with other project members to drive progress at the program level
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired
  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • 5+ years of experience with spacecraft pressure vessels and mechanisms or a relevant and fungible experience
  • Experience with requirements development/management tools such as DOORS Next Gen
  • Experience with systems engineering modeling tools, such as Rhapsody or Cameo.
  • General knowledge of overall systems engineering process

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Estimated salary wage (Colorado only):$105K- $176K
