Job Description

As a member of U. S. Steel's Corporate Communications team, this position will support external communications strategies to advance business priorities, handle day-to-day execution of projects, and bolster the Company reputation. It will report to the Manager of Media Relations and be responsible for supporting robust earned media strategies, working with colleagues on executing and measuring the success of those strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to media inquiries and work with team members on story pitches
  • Maintain list of reporter contacts
  • Draft press releases, fact sheets and other relevant content
  • Contribute to management of editorial calendar
  • Track media coverage of the Company, generating analytic reports and sharing relevant articles
  • Assist with event planning and execution
  • Contribute to USS's digital and social media platforms
  • Work cross-functionally with internal functions including but not limited to government relations, operations and environmental.
  • Work closely with internal communications, marketing and branding members of communications team on strategic efforts

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field
  • Minimum of two years' experience in public relations (i.e., agency work, corporate communications or other fields of communication).
  • Ability to develop and foster relationships across diverse stakeholders
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to pitch media and achieve results
  • Understanding of media, news cycles and editorial process
  • Keen interest in reading and absorbing news every day and ability to learn media covering our industry
  • Can travel roughly 20% of the time
