Job Title: Database Engineer

Role: Individual Contributor Internal Facing Role

Essential Functions:

* Support multiple scrum development teams with their sprint delivery from a database perspective with development of database objects

* Design, develop and deliver data solutions including: architecture design, prototyping of concepts, design and development of test plans, code and module design, development and testing

* Design and implement solutions that follow efficient techniques and development that meet and exceed the intent of the data solution

* Lend support to technology and quality assurance teams as necessary during design, development and delivery to ensure solid, scalable, robust solutions

* Document database development guidelines, standards, and perform code reviews

* Provide logical and physical database design

* Maintain and document data model, data dictionary and data flow diagrams

* Evaluate the latest versions of RDBMS software

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline

Required Experience:

* 2+ years of experience in the design, development and administration of RDBMS systems

* 2+ years of experience with SQL Server database architecture, schema definition and development

* 2+ years of experience with Oracle database architecture, schema definition and development

* Knowledge of database management tools

Desired Skills:

* Expertise in database internals

* Experience developing all database objects

* Knowledge of relational and star schema/dimensional models

* knowledge of database performance and tuning, troubleshooting and query optimization

Behavioral Competencies:

* Detail oriented and a team player/leader

* Critical thinking skills to analyze a situation and organize and guide teams to solve problems

* Sound verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to understand business functionality, processes and flows

* Always learning and sharing with teams and team members

Skills Considered a Plus:

* Oracle DBA Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)

* Experience with DB version control tools like Liquibase/ Flyaway

* Working knowledge of Azure Dev Ops CI/CD Pipeline Process

* Familiarity with and Azure and Oracle OCI Cloud Platforms

* Familiarity with analytics/BI tools like Pentaho or Tableau

* Experience with NoSQL options and Big Data solutions

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $80K-$110K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
