Job Description

Accounting is a core component of our business and key to our success as one of the world's largest steel producers. The Accounting organization ensures financial compliance, manages global financial results for external reporting, and provides financial statistics to U. S. Steel's executive team to aid in strategic business decisions. The Accounting Analyst position will enhance your knowledge and understanding of the accounting field and the relationship between our operations and financial performance.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Accounting Analyst will be responsible for transactions, standards, and practices related to the steel manufacturing process and corporate headquarters functions. This position is open at Corporate Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analysis of fluctuation for selected balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Perform various month-end closing tasks
  • Review and perform account reconciliations in OneStream accounting software
  • Assist and supervise outsourced employees with outside managed inventory tasks including related monthly closing
  • Pension and other employment benefit filings
  • LIFO inventory accounting and analysis
  • Interaction with internal and external auditors
  • Development of stock compensation accounting entries
  • Coordinate periodic revenue testing with external auditors and outsourced accountants
  • Maintain internal financial controls and SOX controls
  • Effective interaction with other personnel from corporate headquarters, financial planning and analysis, tax division, plant accounting, plant financial planning and analysis, procurement, raw materials, and other areas of U. S. Steel
  • Qualified candidate must be able to meet strict adherence to deadlines for financial reporting. Qualified candidate must also have the ability to resolve issues independently by understanding and being attentive to detail. Even though this position will be based out of our corporate headquarters, the candidate must be comfortable working in a plant environment.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business with a concentration in accounting or finance. Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred
  • At least three to five years of experience in accounting, preferably at a public held company or with a public accounting firm
  • CPA preferred
  • Excellent MS Excel and MS Word skills
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, organizational skills and ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Must be a self-directed individual, eager to learn new concepts and able to drive process and control improvements
  • Experience with Oracle preferred
