Senior Product Manager, Data & Insights

Sonos Inc
United States, California, Santa Barbara
614 Chapala Street (Show on map)
May 19, 2022

At Sonos we want to create the ultimate listening experience for our customers and know that it starts by listening to each other. As part of the Sonos team, you'll collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to realize our vision while fostering a community where everyone feels included and empowered to do the best work of their lives.

Position Overview

At Sonos, we're passionate about bringing music into every home and inspiring the world to listen better. To fulfill this mission, we have developed an unquenchable thirst for data. Data helps us build a better business, a better product and ultimately helps us make happier customers. If you love data and music, this is your dream job!

As a product manager for the core data & insights team, you will be responsible for working with business leaders across the company to understand, define and deliver data and insights to support our top company priorities. This is a critical role at Sonos, helping to ensure the success of our new business initiatives by building a strong data and insights culture.

This role can be done from home

Building the world's leading sound experience starts with the experience we provide for our people. That's why we've been distributed from the start: initially between offices in Boston & Santa Barbara, and now with additional offices in Seattle, San Francisco & Paris. This role can be done from anywhere in the United States- any of our offices, or remotely from home. It's about impact, not location.

What you'll do:

  • Lead discussions with business leaders to gather, define and prioritize their data and analytic needs.

  • Work with the data engineering, data scientists and data insights teams to translate business needs into technical data requirements to ensure that data outputs and analytic insights are documented, organized and can be presented back to the data community.

  • Manage and prioritize the flow of work needed to ensure programs are driven to accomplish business goals including scope, schedule, and cost by tracking program execution, working cross functionally to predict and work around obstacles.

  • Resolve or mitigate program level issues and risks related to delivered functionality, schedule and/or budget.

  • Manage data programs providing regular status updates including defining, tracking, and reporting on success metrics.

  • Develop and drive project plans in an agile framework from concept to production by working closely with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Partner closely with quality and operational teams to ensure that services and features ship with high quality.

Skills You'll Need

This role requires skills in leadership, technology, partnering and communication. As a successful candidate, you are passionate about tackling (and solving) hard problems. You are knowledgeable and can confidently talk about code or explain complex technology in simple terms tailoring to your audience. You're collaborative, not afraid of being wrong, and you have strong opinions, weakly held.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics

  • 10+ years experience in roles encompassing both technical and business facing responsibilities

  • Experience working with data ecosystems, data science and/or analytics teams

  • Sound understanding of sql, dbt, python, and database design

  • Experience with application solutions and software development with the ability to bridge conversations between business & technical teams.

  • Experience creating customer account hierarchies which can serve all customer segments

  • Experience creating an end to end direct to consumer architecture and manage the flow of data across multiple touch points

  • Deep understanding of the flow of data as a customer flows across Sales to Services domains

  • Experience with defining requirements related to SMB/B2B eCommerce solutions

  • Knowledge and experience operating in an Enterprise Agile environment and understand SAFe concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics

  • Agile and/or PMI certifications (i.e. SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, PMP, etc.)

  • Ability to help Business Stakeholders define requirements and provide alternative approaches

  • Experience communicating (written and verbally) technical ideas to a wide range of audiences

  • Excellent organization and ability to work with different stakeholders to motivate cross-functional teams.

  • Comfortable making hard decisions using a blend of quantitative and qualitative inputs

  • Collaborative spirit and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
