Image Resource CenterHistory of Art and Architecture, UCSB Position Description The AC recruits, hires, trains, manages, and evaluates a staff of 1 permanent FTE and 1-3 part-time student employees or interns. The AC assumes responsibility for the IRC's administrative and programmatic budgets, and is responsible for the management of grant funding, advising the Chair and faculty of historic level of spending, and developing financial plans and reports as needed. The AC pursues and oversees internal and external grant funds, and initiates undergraduate and graduate student projects with funding. The AC can also design and initiate credit-bearing undergraduate internships. The AC facilitates access to digitalimagelibrariesas well as the IRC's legacy digitalcollection. The AC assesses needs in response to current and future courses, and provides reference services to department and outside patrons.The AC develops digital project initiativesand integrates with other subscription-based collections made available through UCSB's library and the California Digital Library. The AC spearheadsoutreach and promotion of Artstor and JSTOR Forum across campus, soliciting, customizing and overseeing new Forum projects, serving on the JSTOR Forum Advisory Committee, and ascampus administrator for JSTOR Forum and Artstor. The AC oversees the maintenance, security, scheduling and programming of the IRC's instructional and research spaces. This includes the Digital Image Lab (DIL), used for seminars, workshops, interviews, exams, and other purposes; the Center for Object-Based Research and Learning (COBRAL), used for hands-on student exposure to museum and archive materials; and the public scanning stations. The AC is also responsible formaintenance a climate-controlled and secure environment of in the vault. The AC organizes, schedules and promotes quarterly workshops or presentations on research and teaching projects, and new innovations in image-based technology. The AC participates in the pursuitof external grant proposals,develops partnerships to improve access to image collections and services, andpromotesshared resources. The AC serves as UCSBliaison with the California Digital Library, and with other UC image resource specialists. The ACoverseesthe photographyor digitizationandcatalogingof new requests and acquisitions. The ACresearches and recommends new technology andprovides digitization infrastructure to departmental faculty and students including hardware and software training, consulting, standards and best practices, image rights, and tools enabling standards compliance.The AC oversees the preservation and documentation of legacy analog assets. The AC monitorsdepartmental equipment (laptop and desktop computers, scanners) for curricular useand provides training when required. The ACconsultson classroom and technologyneedsand maintenancewith the department's computer and network technologist (CNT), and Letters & Science IT. The AC reports classroom and other building problems to Facilities. The AC designs and distributes an HAAdepartment newsletter 2-3 times per year. The AC solicits newsletter content from faculty, students and alumni, and maintains an up-to-date contact list of alumni. The AC participates in appropriate technical and professional associations, publishesand/or presents findings, and continues professional growth through workshops and seminars. The AC remains informed on instruction andtechnology innovations and copyright issues,and instructsothers as needed. * Master's Degree in Art History (with exposure to all Western and non-Western areas) and/or MLIS or other related degrees Additional qualifications
