Cost Accountant Analyst

Job Summary The Cost Accountant-Analyst provides expertise into product costs, maintains cost records, analyzes costs in bills of materials, reports inventory, and provides period end reporting/analysis for multiple manufacturing sites. In addition, this position is responsible for establishing new product costs, reporting production variances, and tracking production volumes. This role will interact with site operations personnel, finance and senior leadership.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

  • Maintains accurate product costs in Epicor ERP system.
  • Analyzes production and material costs, and makes recommendations for improved cost controls.
  • Collaborates with Accounting, and manufacturing teams to ensure costs are being captured correctly.
  • Develops standard procedures for product costing.
  • Prepares month-end manufacturing results and scorecard. Provides insights to results.
  • Ensures systems controls are in place and determines operation's consistency with corporate objectives and standards through various verification methods and procedures.
  • Reports and monitors plant headcount by function.
  • Prepares and maintains inventory reporting.
  • Develops financial models in support of the annual budget and forecasting processes.
  • Assists department managers in the development of department and organization-wide budgets.
  • Gathers data to support budgeting analysis and forecasting. Analyzes current budgets to determine if funds are appropriately spent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in business or finance preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in plant cost analysis.
  • Cost accounting software experience (Epicor system preferred)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Independent, self-starter, highly motivated
  • Works in a fast paced environment, often with multiple priorities
  • Ability to work with other executives, managers and owners in developing financial forecasts
  • Advanced financial modelling and presentation skills
  • Full understanding of cost of sales components and how cost is mapped in a cost system
  • Understands actual, average and standard costing methods
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint
  • In-depth knowledge of budgeting, cash management, and financial analysis processes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

  • Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level
  • Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems
  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis
  • Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs
