Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Controller of Corporate Tax, the Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for managing global tax operations, tax accounting, tax compliance, and tax automation. The Senior Tax Manager will be a core member of the CAO team as well as a key leader within the overall CFO function.

The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive technical knowledge of tax accounting and tax compliance for large financial institutions as well as have practical experience with tax audit and controversy. The individual will also have in-depth technical knowledge and practical experience of tax planning strategies for large financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage quarterly and annual income tax provision, including proper tax accounting treatment throughout the financial close process

  • Manage effective tax rate and DTA forecasting for Regulatory Reporting (CCAR)

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government regulatory reporting requirements and tax filings

  • Assist with tax planning, including assessing benefits and risks of alternative tax strategies, and strategic management of risks and associated tax reserve

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage US corporate tax lings and audits and strategically manage risks & associated reserve

  • Assist with Tax Planning opportunities and lead implementation of projections of effective tax rate

  • Provide guidance and training on global tax accounting and oversee quarterly and annual income tax provision processes

  • Monitor the control environment to ensure that proper internal controls and procedures are in place, including SOX controls

  • Monitor and analyze tax impacts for non-standard transactions

  • Perform technical reviews, research complex tax issues, and prepare tax memos

  • Actively monitor US, state, and tax legislative and judicial actions, analyze potential impacts/benets, and implement mitigation or action plans

  • Represent Tax in discussions and operations that impact other internal leaders across Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, Legal, HR, and key business stakeholders

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with leaders across the Company and present highly complex tax information in an easily understandable format to executives

  • Manage external audits and tax compliance reviews

  • Assist with efforts associated with the transformation and digitization of the tax function to scale for growth, which includes people development, process and workpaper simplication and standardization, effective use of data and technology, and representing the tax function within broader finance transformation initiatives

  • Liaise with internal teams and external advisors to resolve complex tax issues and to provide tax advice for non-standard transactions and special projects, including M&A and LFI requirements

  • Provide timely and accurate tax advice to internal business and operation teams

  • Lead, develop, and provide hands-on guidance to mentor global tax team members

Key Experience/Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have at least 8+ years of industry experience in Banking, overseeing corporate tax functions at a major financial institution. Prior career experience leading tax transformation initiatives and strong familiarity with tax systems and applications desired. Prior experience in public accounting preferred.

In addition, the individual will possess the following:

  • Experience leading corporate tax functions for a Large Financial Institution, including extensive technical experience with ASC 740 income tax provision, income and indirect tax compliance, tax research, planning and memos, and overall tax governance

  • Strong strategic and execution skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and work across the CAO/CFO, HR, and Legal organizations and interface with external auditors, internal auditor, and regulators

  • Resilient self-starter who is comfortable pivoting often and learning continuously

  • Expert understanding of tax principles, tax policies and business operations for a Large Financial Institution

  • Strong project management, a proven ability to manage competing priorities and work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment experiencing rapid global growth

  • Familiarity with international tax

  • Outstanding leadership skills, with the ability to coach and motivate talent to inspire action and achieve results

  • Strong teaming skills and ability to influence and build consensus across functional groups

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent

  • Masters in Taxation or Equivalent is preferred

  • CPA preferred
