Sr. Systems Engineering & Integration Engineer

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of specialists, you will directly support Blue Origin's success through skilled management of the development and administration of appropriate standards and tools for systems engineering including systems architecture, systems integration, trade studies, requirements development and decomposition, verification approaches, configuration management, gated reviews, systems safety, and technical performance metric management.

Champion and build technical processes, standard methodologies and tool development for system engineering and product development including: requirement collection and flow-down, preliminary design, critical design, product realization, design verification testing, system integration, qualification, certification, delivery, and operations.

You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of development activities as we help business units achieve their mission! This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Champion technical processes, best practices and tool development for system engineering and product development including: requirements capture and flow-down, preliminary design, critical design, product realization, design verification testing, system integration, qualification, certification, delivery, and operations.
  • Establish, supervise, document and improve processes specific to systems engineering in light of industry best practices to improve cycle time, user acceptance, and to reduce defects and waste
  • Act as the negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests in order to make sure the organization as a whole is optimized
  • Work with internal customers and tool developers to develop requirements and implement organizational systems and programs
  • Act as a non-advocate Domain Specialist (SME) for programs during reviews and failure investigations
  • Chair/run SE working group(s)
  • Develop strategies and approaches for specialty engineering (operability, reliability, maintainability, supportability) integration, analysis and verification
  • Mentor and educate Blue Origin employees on systems engineering processes and methods. Develop and present training materials

Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering or other technical field
  • 8+ years of systems development, project management experience, and/or process improvement experience
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and lead teams, good execution and coordination skills
  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems
  • Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness and success from previous assignments and working with interdisciplinary and multi-functional teams.
  • Self-directed and balance several tasks at one time
  • Support up to 10% domestic travel to engage key partners and support training
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Experience managing process/tool improvement projects, including requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
  • Experience with requirements development/management tools; DOORS, DOORS Next Gen and lifecycle management (PLM) and/or data, Windchill
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering and tools such as Cameo or NoMagic
  • Experience leading Continuous Improvement projects and Kaizens
  • Strong understanding of safety-critical systems development (aerospace, medical, automotive)
  • Experience in reliability, maintainability and supportability analysis and execution
  • Experience with failure investigations
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others while leading improvement projects
  • Experience in making routine presentations to large groups and also, executive level employees

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $130,200-$190,960
